THE
JAZZ / NEW / WORLD MUSIC LABEL
Specializing
in cutting-edge jazz (with new music/world music influences) from New
York's downtown scene and other centres of creative music. If you like
complex yet memorable tunes, committed improvising, evocative harmonic
explorations, unusual textures and colors, and unpredictable, insinuating
grooves, you'll find them all here. Also world music for the adventurous.
Challenging yet accessible music in dauntingly, flamboyantly eclectic
styles... the listening is sweet and strange.
Fred Bouchard, Jazz Times
...the
Vancouver based label whose astonishingly high level output is expanding
the boundaries of new jazz
Andy Hamilton, The Wire
Is Songlines the most underappreciated independent jazz label?
Popmatters thinks so.

review article at Soundstage! HI-FI which ends "I
can't think of another record company I like better."
Songlines label owner Tony Reif was interviewed by Turtleboy's Jon Lindhorst for jazz.about.com - read it here.

SONGLINES RELEASES NOW AVAILABLE AS HIGH RESOLUTION DOWNLOADS AT HDTRACKS.COM.
High-res downloads are also available from Qobuz.com and Highresaudio.com.
Songlines Recordings, home to such critically acclaimed artists as Wayne Horvitz, Jerry Granelli, Michael Blake, Ben Monder and Theo Bleckmann, Tony Malaby, Brad Shepik, James Carney, Benoît Delbecq and Andy Milne, recently opened a store at HDTracks.com.
Since 2001 Songlines has released almost all of our music as hybrid SACDs. Now, thanks to the innovative technology that powers HD Tracks, audiophile listeners can download stereo files of all 40 of our SACD releases and more in 24/88.2 or 24/96 (FLAC encoded), as well as at 16/44.1 and as 320 kbps MP3s. The rest of the catalog is there as well. Tracks are DRM free and can be played on any computer or portable device. All albums come with complete artwork in PDF format.
Several CD releases, both catalog and recent titles, are available there in high-res for the first time, including guitarist Ryan Blotnick's Everything Forgets; Looks like it's going to snow from The October Trio; Sean Noonan's Boxing Dreams; and Ghost of Electricity from Junk Genius; also Wayne Horvitz's Forever.
Upcoming releases will be available on CD and as stereo downloads. We still love multi-channel, but producing SACDs is unfortunately not financially viable these days. Hopefully multi-channel downloads will become an option in the not-too-distant future – if you are interested in that please let us know.
