October Trio CD Release Concert and Webcast

Vancouver, B.C.- This month, nationally acclaimed Canadian jazz group The October Trio, with trumpeter Brad Turner, are celebrating the release of their new album Looks like it's going to snow on the Songlines label with a concert at The Western Front in Vancouver. The show will be recorded for broadcast on CBC Radio 2's Canada Live. We are also doing a live video webcast of the concert which will be available at www.plungerecords.com/?plungetv/.

Date: Friday January 23, 7:30 p.m. PST

The October Trio’s third album, Snow once again features the classic sound of bass, drums and saxophone, this time augmented by one of Canada's most honoured jazz musicians, Brad Turner, on trumpet and flugelhorn, in a set of compositions created specifically for the quartet.

"The October Trio with Brad Turner is performing some of the freshest, vital contemporary jazz on the Canadian scene today," says Ken Pickering, Artistic Director of the Vancouver International Jazz Festival.

Released across Canada on January 13 and worldwide in February, Snow stands as the much-anticipated next step for this young trio. "The disc feels like a culmination and a celebration: a forever set-list crafted on the bandstand and then in the studio," writes critic Greg Buium in the liner notes for the album. "Everything acts as an invitation to open things up - sonic and emotional space - an unburdened framework for improvisation."

Together since 2004, October has steadily built a reputation for their thoughtful yet adventurous sound. Their hard work and dedication earned them the 2006 CBC Galaxie Rising Star Award for best new group at the Vancouver International Jazz Festival.

In 2007 the band performed at the Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Seattle, and Portland Jazz Festivals, and they were invited to perform at the 2008 National Jazz Awards in Toronto. They were also nominated for a 2007 Western Canadian Music Award for outstanding jazz recording for their previous album Day In (Cellar Live). Summer 2009 will see them touring Canadian jazz festivals from Victoria to Saint John’s, with hopefully one or more New York area gigs in early July. A European tour is being planned for 2010.

The October Trio is Evan Arntzen, on tenor and soprano sax (2005 CBC Jam Award Winner / Amanda Tosoff Quartet), Josh Cole on bass, and Dan Gaucher on drums (Rabnett 5 / Fond of Tigers).
